Matt's Story
Seven years ago I returned to the Inland Northwest after retiring from the Air Force, having served over 21 years on active duty. Shortly after choosing Spokane as my "adopted" hometown, I heard about this great annual bike ride and the wonderful service-centered organization it supports. I rode my first "8 Lakes/Leg Aches" course in 2008 and have participated every year since, generally raising over $1000 in pledges each year. So here in my "lucky" 7th summer of Washington residency, I'm aiming to do that again! I look forward to this event each year for the scenic course, outstanding support and overall camaraderie shared with hundreds of other riders. It's a good time for a worthy cause and I'm thankful to be able to ride it again, despite the triple challenges this year of fewer training opportunities, my work schedule, and some lingering knee issues.
Given those constraints, I have chosen to once again do the 45-mile ride this year. Your tax-deductible donations are very much appreciated! You can make an online donation right from this page ("click here to donate" link, above), or mail me a check (made out to Lutheran Community Services NW) but don't forget to send it to our new address! The pledge deadline (August 1) is coming up fast so please do it TODAY!! Know that you are helping to make a HUGE difference in people's lives, and how important it is to have these resources available in times of critical need.
Thank you, God bless you, and please pray for all of us participants and volunteers this coming August 2!
In His grace,
Matt
